Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Dozens of cell occupants at the headquarters of the Banjarbaru City Police blood taken for examination of Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV).


Head of Banjarbaru Health Agency Agus Widjaja here on Thursday said the examination was in collaboration with the Banjarbaru AIDS Commission (KPA).

"As many as 54 detainees were blood taken to be examined, while two people refused for fear of needles," said Agus interrupted blood sampling.

He said it was part of an effort to detect early HIV/AIDS among detainees, so it can be prevented transmission. Before the blood samples, they were collected and given counseling on HIV/AIDS, including transmission, to let them know it.

KPA Banjarbaru Secretary Edi Sampana said blood sampling was confidential so none of other prisoners who could find out the results.

"If there is detainee who indicated positive, then immediately asked to seek treatment so that the disease does not get worse and spread to other people," he said.

He said, the results of blood samples known to one to two days ahead and can be directly followed by the treatment of the detainee indicated.

Previously, the Health Office in cooperation with KPA Banjarbaru taking blood samples of eleven female and six male detainees in Banjarbaru City Police headquarters.

"As a result, all the prisoners negative HIV virus and it is expected they may prevent actions that cause transmission of the HIV virus," said Edi Sampana.
