Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin said that Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have a strategic role in education, da'wah, and community empowerment.
Especially if it is oriented toward improving the welfare of pesantren and the surrounding community. The Vice President's message is now starting to realize, one of which is at the Al-Islam Kambitin agricultural Technology Islamic Boarding School in Tabalong District.
Since being chosen to be fostered by Adaro through Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program, Al-Islam through the Board of Management of the Pesantren Business Unit (BPUP) has been fully committed to developing its two business units, goat farming, and fisheries.
The fisheries business has entered the third cycles with 14,000 fish stocked, consisting of 9,000 Thailand tilapia and 5,000 superior tilapia.
Every day the santri (students) who are members of BPUP with full of enthusiasm take care of fish they have cultivated, from feeding, maintaining water quality, cleanliness around the ponds, and providing vitamins.
Thank to the coaching and training from Adaro accompanied by high enthusiasm and motivation from the santri, they could enjoy the harvest.
Some are sold to meet the nutrition needs of the santri, others are sold to parents and the general public through digital marketing. From the sale of tilapia to date, they collected a turnover of up to Rp25 million.
Devi, one of the buyers, said that the cleaned fish they sold is a good added value because it makes it easier for customers.
“It turns out that the fish have been cleaned. Good service from the pesantren," she said.
Ustadz Hakim, head of BPUP for Agricultural Technology Al-Islam, said that this business is very helpful toward the self-sufficiency of the pesantren.
“Alhamdulillah, this fishery business is beneficial for the pesantren and community around,” said Hakim.
He said that Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program has not only helped pesantren to be self-sufficient but also teaches santri how to do business so that in the future they will not only become preachers of da'wah but also able to build a business to move the economy of the community.
