A total of 1,634 hectares of rice plants in a number of areas in Tapin District were estimated to have failed crops due to floods starting in mid-January.

Head of Tapin Agriculture Agency Wagimin said 2,729 hectares of rice plants were damaged spread in 12 sub-districts, while those still in nursery reached 3,785 hectares.

"We are proposing seed assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture for an area of 1,514 hectares," he said, Friday.

He acknowledged that some farmers prefer local seeds and did not want to receive the assistance of superior varieties of rice seeds.

Wagimin said that in Binuang Sub-district the nursery area was 959 hectares, 950 hectares were damaged, 950 hectares of seeds are proposed, Tapin Selatan 350 hectares, 500 hectares was estimated damaged, and Tapin Utara 114 hectares, 94 hectares were damaged.

Bakarangan 75 hectares, 75 hectares were damaged, Candi Laras Selatan 1,025 hectares, 400 hectares were damaged, 400 hectares seeds are proposed.

Furthermore in Candi Laras Utara 200 hectares, 100 hectares were damaged, Hatungun 15 hectares, all 15 hectares were damaged.
