Tinea pedis (in Banjar language it is called lancat) was the most common disease complained by the residents of Barabai, Central Hulu Sungai (HST), after severe flood hit the district.
"Nearly five days our house was flooded, wearing no sandals to walk, almost all family members, children and wife, got tinea pedis, the disease is very painful," said Dillah, a resident of Barabai, Wednesday (27/1).
Based on the Health Office data as of 16 to 26 January, 2021, as many as 453 people contracted by the disease which also known as athlete’s foot. The figure was calculated from residents who came fro free treatment to the health post for handling flood.
Not to mention people who did self-medication, possibly thousands people affected by Tinea pedis.
The second mostly complaining disease after the flood was ISPA (acute respiratory infection) with 375 people affected followed by RA/MYALGIA or muscle pain for 179 people.
For treatment service, the government of HST through Health Agency opened posts in several places of evacuation in a number of sub-districts affected by flood.
Tinea pedis is a fungal infection of foot skin. Usually starts between toes then spreads to all areas of foot. This condition can occur in all age groups.
