After the high intensity of rainfall from Sunday night to Monday morning, Amandit River in South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District overflowed causing flooding and swamped residents' houses in three sub-districts, and landslides in other sub-district.

Acting Head of HSS Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Syamsudin here said the three sub-districts now inundated are Padang Batung, Angkinang, and Kandangan, while landslide occurred in Loksado.

"Landslide in Loksado has caused oprit (the approach) of one bridge on Bayampah road to Ni'ih collapsed, resulted in the road access cut off," he said

For the temporary handling, residents have worked together by stretching trees so that two-wheeled vehicles can pass and this issue has been reported by the BPBD to the  HSS Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUTR).

The BPBD has monitored that about four houses in Batu Bini Village, Padang Batung Sub-district, were swamped in about 30-centimeter high water, while in Angkinang 50 centimeter to 1-meter high water inundated 25 residents houses or affected 135 people.

The flood in Angkinang was quite severe and several people had to be evacuated. The BPBD also carried out monitoring in Kandangan Sub-district, because water discharge began to rise.

According to him, flooding caused by the overflow of the Amandit River, which occurs almost every year, usually will recede in about six to seven hours.

Meanwhile, one house was affected by a landslide in Mawangi Village, Padang Batung. About 50 percent of the house was damaged.

BPBD continues to make effort to handle residents affected by the disaster and coordinated with the Social Agency for providing emergency tents and public kitchens, also assisted by a team of volunteers, Health Agency, and Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
