The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Meteorological Station Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin reminded the public to be vigilant doing activities outside when it rains.

"Currently, there is a huge potential for extreme weather, rain is often accompanied by lightning and strong wind," said the Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Meteorological Station Forecaster Staff Muhammad Shaaimul Qadri in Banjarbaru, Monday.

According to him, in general, the South Kalimantan region is in the rainy season which is marked by the blowing of Asian monsoon and is supported by high humidity, which triggers the growth of convective clouds.

Added with the atmospheric disturbance of convergence wind patterns that pass the southern region. It has the potential to produce rains with moderate to a heavy intensity that could be accompanied by lightning or thunder and strong winds.

Shaaimul gave some tips for people to prevent lightning attacks when it rains. Immediately go inside, if it rains and you are outside the house or building.

Don't take shelter under trees, stay away from swimming pools, get away from open spaces, stop riding motorbikes, and avoid electric poles.

"If the rain has been poured with high intensity, then the potential for landslides to flood should be watched out for, including high waves in the sea," said Shaaimul.
