The North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Education Office issued a circular to junior high schools (SLTP) and community learning centers (PKBM) to prohibit their students to be involved in rallies (demonstrations), which could potentially lead to violence.
Acting Head of the agency H Junaidi Gunawan said the circular No. 900 of 2018 which he signed on October 12, 2020, was motivated by university students and school students demonstrations in Jakarta and other regions that went anarchic.
"We ask school principals and teachers, especially in state and private SLTP and PKBM to supervise and guard their respective students so as not to involve in such activities," said Junaidi.
The government, especially Education Agency, he said, was also worried that demonstrations during the pandemic would threaten their health and safety, because crowds could potentially lead to a cluster of the spread of COVID-19.
The HSU Education Office also refers to a number of laws and regulations, particularly the Child Protection Act in issuing the circular.
Teachers asked to provide assistance to students, so they understand the danger that may cause if they go down to anarchic rallies and the spread of COVID 19.
"We also urge teachers to cooperate and communicate with parents to ensure their children follow the lessons well," said Junaidi again.
