Community Service by Students (PMM) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is developing Sungai Raya Selatan village in Sungai Raya Sub-district, South Hulu Sungai (HSS), into a vegetable village.

The coordinator of the students community work in Sungai Raya Selatan, Ihya Hairi, said the program of the vegetable village was an agenda to make the village a green area.

"The aim is to increase the productivity of the community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know many people get boring, so there need to be appropriate activities for villagers to take advantage of their spare time," he said, Sunday (Sept 13, 2020).

The activity began with clearing land at the village office, which previously was planted with a live pharmacy. The place was then renewed by painting and sorting out plants that could be replanted.

The live medicinal plants they planted included ginger, kencur (aromatic ginger), turmeric, aloe vera, lemongrass, betel, galangal, celery, and pandan leaves. They did not just replant, but gave barcodes to each plant.

The barcode will be directly linked to the PMM Sungai Raya Selatan blog, containing information about the benefits and how to plant, to make it easier for everyone who need the information about the plants.

"We also collaborate with the Sungai Raya Selatan Family Welfare Empowerment Program (PPK) team in the cultivation of catfish and water spinach in the bucket. It was carried out at the village office followed by village officials and some residents," he said.
