A number of residents of Karang Bintang Sub-district, Tanah Bumbu, participated in making bio-fertilizer training provided by the local Fisheries Office for four days since Agustus 26, 2020.

"The Tanah Bumbu Fisheries Office is collaborating with the Center of Research for Product Processing and Marine Biotechnology to train residents to make biological fertilizer," said the coordinator of the training team of the Fisheries Office A. Gafur Ariyasi in Batulicin, Thursday.

It was held to increase people's knowledge and skill on how to make biological fertilizer. The ingredients come from marine products, such as small crab shells, crab shells, shrimp shells, and others.

The basic material can also be added with cow manure or ash of palm bunches to increase the quality of the fertilizer.

According to him, the good of bio-fertilizer when compared to other fertilizers is it generates the soil life, fertilizes the soil, and provides nutrient to plant.

Gafur said, the bio-fertilizer can be made in liquid or in solid type, which takes the period of 15 days, due to the fermentation process.

"Regarding the cost, bio-fertilizer is very affordable, as all materials needed are easy to find and available in the neighborhood where the residents live," he said.

It is a business opportunity for the residents of Tanah Bumbu to create a new job, considering bio-fertilizer can be a substitute from chemical fertilizer.

"It is hoped the similar activities can be developed by the village-owned entreprise for developing community business in the area," Gafur said.
