Head of Banjarmasin Health Agency Machli Riyadi said that the city has bought a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) equipment to accelerate the swab test sample process of COVID-19 patients.
"The procurement of Rp2,5 billion worth PCR its fund is taken from Unexpeced Fund (DTT) phase 2 of the Banjarmasin COVID-19 handling acceleration post," he said here, Friday.
The equipment test, said the city's Task Force spokesman for the Acceleration Handling of COVID-19, is to come on Sunday.
"We target the installation next week as well as training for health workers to operate the PCR device," he said.
Machli said, with the PCR Banjarmasin Health Office will be faster in carrying out the diagnosis and COVID-19 handling.
"Of course, this PCR is prioritized for Banjarmasin residents, but it does not close the possibility of helping other regions if samples in our city are reduced," he said.
This PCR equipment can check about 150 samples per day. "So the results come out quickly, even for a day," he pointed out.
Positive cases of COVID-19 in Banjarmasin have not decreased significantly, detection s still being carried out. People are asked to remain disciplined in complying with health protocol to be safe from transmission of the virus.
According to Mayor's circular related to guidelines for commemoration of 75th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence on August 17, Machli said, people are asked not to carry out any festivities that cause large crowds.
"Many of our urban villages are still red zones, everyone must remain vigilant, keep social distance, wear masks, and wash hands diligently," he urged.
