Heavy rain which flushed Pelaihari and surrounding for about 15 hours since Friday night until Saturday at 14.15 Wita (Central Indonesia Time) has swamped several places in the capital of Tanah Laut District.

The Santa Theresia Pelaihari Catholic Church was one of the places that have been submerged.

Two meters water inundated the church, including a car, two motorcycles, and washed away chairs, tables, gas canister, in pastor's residence and church hall.

Since the rain stopped until three and a half hours later the water subsided to about 40 centimeters.

Tanah Laut Regent H Sukamta asked the condition of the priest and offered to evacuate to a safer place. The building in the pastor's residence has two floors, so the second flood was safe from inundation.

"Father, if you later need help, contact us immediately. We are ready to help evacuate," said Sukamta who spoke by telephone on the roadside in front of the church.

The regent said, the flooding was the worst since it reached the road.

Meanwhile, access to the location was closed, because the bridge in Sarang Halang was submerged as water overflowed the road.

The flood also swamped several housing complexes in the capital city of Pelaihari.
