A special PIA flight carrying 237 Pakistani nationals, who had been stranded in Indonesia amid the COVID-19 outbreak, left Jakarta for Islamabad on Tuesday morning (May 19, 2020).
Ambassador Abdul Salik Khan and a team of officers and staff from the Embassy of Pakistan were at the airport to bid farewell to the Pakistan nationals, according to a statement received on Tuesday in Jakarta.
The Pakistan nationals expressed their appreciation of the efforts made by the Mission in arranging their stay as well as the special flight to help them celebrate Eid ul Fitr with their loved ones.
Through the concerted efforts of the Embassy, the Foreign Affairs ministries of the two countries, and coordination with the PIA authorities, almost all stranded Pakistanis have been able to return to Pakistan safe and sound, according to the statement.
This was the second such flight in the past five weeks. Earlier, on April 18, 2020, 221 Pakistanis had returned to Pakistan from Indonesia.
Around 450 Pakistanis had been stranded in different parts of Indonesia due to flight cancellations and lockdowns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. (INE)
