Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa's Tarjun Plant Management in Kotabaru has fostered a community around the company to utilize the ex-mining site for freshwater fish farming.
Tarjun Plant Manager H Teguh Iman Basoeki here on Wednesday said, the company keeps it commitment to run corporate social responsibility (CSR), of course by fulfilling COVID-19 protocol.
"Floating cage fisheries become an alternative to help people to obtain additional earning and as one of the sources of fish for market and local need,” he said.
The company firstly provided the community with training on floating cage cultivation, so they got a new source of earning to meet their daily needs.
Training instructor, I Wayan Sudhiarta said, participants were provided with knowledge related to how to cultivate tilapia, from breeding, broodstock selection to maintenance and harvesting, as well as determine the cage, quality of seeds, feed, and water quality.
"It became interesting because the media used by the farmers group was a former mining excavation, it was a good effort," he noted in a press release.
“We saw the initial stage was good, and we from the company will continue to monitor its progress so the business could run as expected,” he explained.
One of the farmers, Mudrikah said, they chose the ex-mining site because it was cheap in terms of financing. It needed only a small amount of wood and bamboo sticks, while controlling activity was not far from their residential area, so it made it easier.
