The North Hulu Sungai branch of the National Zakat Board of Indonesia (Baznas) took an earlier time to distribute the 1441 Hijriyah Ramadan Package to people entitled to receive.
Chairperson of the HSU's Baznas H Tajuddin Noor in Amuntai on Tuesday said the Ramadan packages were distributed earlier in order to ease the burden of the needy people when entering Ramadan amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
"We distribute as many as 600 packages of food through HSU Care Program," said Tajuddin.
He said the distribution of basic necessities was carried out since Saturday (April 18) and initiated for the widows who were unable to earn a living for themselves (Armalah) and the needy poor (dhu'afa) of 458 people worth Rp110,230,200.
Then on Tuesday (April 21) to pedicab drivers and cart labor as many as 41 people worth Rp9,880,006 and the last on Wednesday (April 23) to be distributed to as many as 101 janitors with a value of Rp144,390,000.
Symbolically the Ramadan package was handed over by HSU Regent H Abdul Wahid HK to representatives of the recipients at the yard of the regent residence on Jalan Norman Umar, Amuntai.
"At least this will help part of the necessities of the dhu'afa amid the COVID 19 outbreak when outdoor activities are restricted and economic conditions decline," Wahid said.
Wahid hoped that economically capable people pay attention to the environment around them to help the poor who need help.
