Sebuku Dam Overflowing

Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Dam for iron ore leaching in Sebuku Island, Kotabaru District, overflowed after heavy rain for several hours.

Head of the Kotabaru Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Tri Basuki Rahmat, here on Wednesday admitted that PT SILO dam overflowed after rains since Tuesday (4/2) nights, but obtained no information about casualties.

A community leader who declined to be named , said the PT SILO dam for leaching of iron ore broken after heavy rain.

"The company is ready to be responsible for the incident, " he said.

In addition to PT SILO dam burst, hundreds of homes of Sungai Bali residents were flooded as high as adult knee.

The company immediately make improvements to the dam burst . The company also had built a soup kitchen to help the local community.

"Current condition of the water has started to recede , and some people have started returning to their homes," said one resident, Dayan.
