The price of local sugar in North Hulu Sungai District (HSU), South Kalimantan, continues to creep up until now it has reached Rp22,000 per kilogram.
Head of the Economy and Natural Resources of the District's Administration Muhammad Rafiq in Amuntai on Thursday (April 2, 2020) said, the availability of basic foods in the area is still normal, except for sugar, which price between Rp20,000 and Rp22,000 per kg.
"The price is indeed expensive, because of the delay in supply from Java," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of South Kalimantan Trade Agency Birhasani predicted that ahead of holy month of Ramadan the price of sugar will back to normal due to the arrival of imported sugar from several countries.
He in Banjarmasin on Friday (April 3, 2020) said he had coordinated with the Director of Raw Materials of the Ministry of Trade. "From the information we recieved in the not to long time, imported sugar from various countries will enter Indonesia," he said.
Likewise the price of other commodities, such garlic, which previously has risen, have been supplied to South Kalimantan in large quantities.
Now the price of garlic in HSU is around Rp45,000 per kg. Even shallots go down to Rp40,000 per kg in Amuntai Market.
"Alhamdulillah so far almost all staple commodities are available and the price is still normal. We always monitor their development, especially ahead of Ramadan," Rafiq said.
