PT MRT Jakarta, along with PT Adhi Karya and Shimizu Corporation Indonesia, signed the contract to develop Phase 2A of the Mass Rapid Transit project, which stretches from the HI Roundabout to Harmoni (CP 201). The project, valued at Rp4.5 trillion, was signed at the MRT Jakarta Bundaran HI Station in Jakarta, Monday.

The signing was carried out by the PT MRT Jakarta's Construction Director Silvia Halim and Shimizu-Adhi Karya Joint Venture represented by Yutaka Okumura on the Contract Package, between PT MRT Jakarta and Shimizu-Adhi Karya JV (SAJV) related to the Design and Build Underground Section of the Jakarta Project Phase 2 Contract Package 201.

The event was witnessed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masafumi Ishii, President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William Sabandar, JICA Chief Representative for the Republic of Indonesia Yamanaka Shinichi and Managing Director of PT Adhi Karya Budi Harto.

The signing was the result of a long process carried out to ensure that the construction could be completed on schedule and carried out optimally, Governor Baswedan said in his remarks.

"After going through quite a complicated planning process, the construction of the Jakarta Phase 2A MRT, in particular 2.8 kilometers (km) from the HI Roundabout Station to the Monas Station, could be signed," he said.

He also requested that the MRT Stations and the Transjakarta bus stops be connected in the second phase, making it easier for the mobility of the community where all elements of the people could blend in.

"Transjakarta and the MRT are unifying instruments because this is for all of us. This Phase 2 design takes integration into account. Later, the MRT will become the backbone of all transportations, so everything will be 100 percent integrated, "he said.

Phase 2A starts from HI Roundabout Station to Kota Station with a total length of 6km and consists of seven underground stations namely Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota.

Construction for Phase 2A is divided into three civil contract packages, consisting of contract packages CP 201, CP 202 and CP 203. The construction period of Phase 2A will begin in March 2020 and is planned for completion in December 2024.

The signing of the CP 201 work contract between PT MRT Jakarta and Shimizu - Adhi Karya JV (SAJV) marked the start of Phase 2A development project work.

In the contract, there are two underground station works namely Thamrin and Monas. The CP 201 work package will build a tunnel and station that has a 2.8km line to connect the Bundaran HI Station and Harmoni Station.

President Director of PT MRT Jakarta, William P Sabandar said the Phase 2 construction process is more complicated than Phase 1 because all of the processes are underground and some areas would be under the Ciliwung River, as well as soft soil structures in North Jakarta.

"Considering the location of the project which is in the Ring 1 area, PT MRT Jakarta always puts safety for the community first, especially that of the citizens of Jakarta. In this connection, PT MRT Jakarta will use a development planning system with a high-security system, especially when working on the construction of Thamrin Station and Monas Station, "he said.

Furthermore, PT Jakarta MRT will carry out the integration of Phase 2B development or what is referred to as the North-South Line and will continue with the development of the East-West Line.

The City Area will be the starting point for the construction of Phase 2B with a halt in West Ancol.

Phase 2B is estimated to have a 5.8km line consisting of three stations, namely Mangga Dua, Ancol, and West Ancol, with an estimated construction process to begin in mid-2022 and become operational in 2027. (INE)
