The Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Internasional Airport authority is still waiting the development on the opening plan of an international flight from the airport to foreign countries.

"We are still awaiting the news from airlines that will open overseas flight routes, especially Malaysia," said Communication and Legal Section Head of Syamsudin Noor Internasional Airport Aditya Putra Patria here, Tuesday (Jan 28, 2020).

Previously, he said, the Malaysian carrier AirAsia in mid-2019 stated it was ready to open the flight route to Malaysia. The fact is, no more news yet so far, and the state airport operator (PT AP I) is still waiting for the certainty.

Whereas the airport facility was already complete to serve international flights as it has a new terminal. 

"All departure and arrival facilities for passengers are ready, so when we open international route it will immediately be operational," he affirmed.

In addition to completeness of the facilities, the requirements for welcoming the arrival passengers are also ready, such as room for customs, immigration, and quarantine officers.

The new terminal of Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin International Airport was officiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on December 18, 2019.

The expansion of Syamsudin Noor Airport was in the National Strategic Project (PSN) with the extent of the terminal area 77.569 square meters or 8 times larger than the old terminal 9.043 square meters. 

The new terminal that can accommodate 7 million passengers per year is also supported by 42 check-in counters, 3 conveyor belt, waiting room 5.185 square meters, parking area 34.360 square meter for cars and 2.420 square meters for motorcycles.

A new cargo terminal with a capacity of 44.000 tons per year also built. While the apron is increased to 129.812 square meters to accommodate 16 narrow-body aircraft from previously 8 aircrafts.
