The Banjarmasin National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has sent six of its personnel to help flood victims in Jakarta, and they were departed by plane on Friday (Jan 3, 2020) afternoon.


Head of SAR Banjarmasin Mujiono here on Friday said, all rescuer team members have been equipped with self-proection equipment in accordance with established standards.

"They bring with them such as safety helmet, life jacket, booties, and rescue equipments such as webbing ropes, carabiner, headlamps, flashlights, mattresses, and throw bag in additon to medical equipment," he pointed out.

The team, according to him, will later joint in a humanitarian mission, namely to evacuate flood victims in the capital.

Before leaving, he said, he had asked the personnel to be prepared themselves with prime physicl condition, because water level reaches one meter or even higher at some locations.

"We have asked our personnel to maintain good physical condition and stamina, because they must be considered when conducting SAR operation to be strong in face of unpredictable terrain and weather," he said. 

He added that the number of personnel to be dispatched and their departure from Syamsudin Noor International Airport to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport were all under the instruction of central Basarnas.

Head of SAR Banjarmasin's Operation and Preparedness Section Wasino added that SAR offices as to send their personnel are Semarang, Yogyakarta, Denpasar, Lampung, Pekanbaru, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Palembang, Mataram, Balikpapan, Bandung, and Surabaya.
