Change does not have to wait for the environment, but how we can influence the environment to change for the better.

This principle motivates Izzudin Syarif, a teacher at the state vocational high school SMK Negeri 1 Paringin, Balangan District, to take part in the Fulbright scholarship selection managed by The American-Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF).

As a result, Chairperson of the Dept of Electric Power Installation Engineering at the SMKN 1 Paringin was chosen to be one of the recipients of the scholarship along with other three teacher from Padang, Aceh, and North Kalimantan.

"Only four teachers from Indonesia passed the selection, including me," Izzudin explained.

The Yogyakarta State University (UNY) alumni is a productive electricity teacher. Through the scholarship, he will take a short course for one semester in America.

The plan is Izzudin to take part in the short course program from January 7 to May 14, 2020 in Arizona State University.

He told about the selection that was began in January 2019, when he filled out an application at the AMINEF website.

"I was among those who passed the administrative selection and have the right to take the interview selection and TOEFL test," he said.

In the interview, the candidates of scholarship recipients were confirmed about their educational backgground, field of teaching, school conditions, program undertaken while in school, achievement, to the inquiry project plan in the USA if they were selected.

"The interview using English, while TOEFL test was facilitated by KAPLAN," Izzudin explained.

From 110 finalists from Indonesia, Izuddin finally was able to go through all stages and was entitled to receive the Fulbright Scholarship funded by the American government.

Scholarships include tuition fee, housing, seminar fees,international and domestic tickets, technology allowance, to limited health insurance.
