The city government of Banjarmasin has alloted about Rp50 billion to renovate a bridge that crosses the Kuin River near the royal tomb of Sultan Suriansyah, the first sultan in the Banjar Kingdom.

"The biggest bridge construction in 2020 is the bridge in Kuin or (what so-called) Putih Bridge of HKSN, near the tomb of Sultan Suriansyah, the cost is about Rp50 billion," said Mayor Ibnu Sina.

The steel and concrete bridge has been decades old, but the traffic here is so dense that it need to be completely renovated. "So the bridge will be built wider, and of course the design meets the beauty, and supports the river transportation channel in the region," he said.

Moreover, the bridge connects two sub-district, namelu North Banjarmasin and West Banjarmasin. "Thus it is very important here and it become the priority of development next year," mayor pointed out, added that the draft regulation for the allocation of the bridge has been approved by the local legislative council (DPRD).

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of Banjarmasin DPRD Muhammad Yamin confirmed the council had approved the allocation for the construction of the bridge in 2020.

According to him, the bridge sould be construct bigger, because it was often jammed, as the traffic flow here was very congested.
"Indeed the bridge is quite long, crossing the Kuin River," he explained.
