People's representatives (legislators) from two neighboring district, Kotabaru and Tanah Bumbu, held a silaturrahmi (friendly meeting) in the main hall of Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) building, Monday (Nov 4, 2019).


The speaker of Kotabaru Legislative Council Syairi Mukhlis said, the working visit of their colleagues from Tanah Bumbu was in the frame work of silaturrahmi as well as to establish sinergy of the two neighboring districts.

"Of the issues we talked about, some of which related to the follow-up of Pulau Laut Bridge project to connect the two district (Kotabaru-Tanah Bumbu)," Syairi remarked.

Even, concerning the construction of the bridge, together they both held  a consultation to the central government, the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Board (PPN/Bappenas) in Jakarta.

He said, the result of the consultation was the continuation of the construction of the longest bridge was still under the study by the Bappenas.

So the question whether the construction to continue or to be postponed must wait the study of the team to be sent to review the mega-project that is estimated to cost Rp3.5 trillion.

However the PDIP politician remained optimistic and committed to continuing the construction of the 3.5 km bridge, despite of not knowing the exact time.

"We as the resident of Kotabaru really want this bridge to be continued till completion, because it has a great impact to the acceleration of development and progress of Bumi Saijaan (Kotabaru)," he asserted.

According to him, not only Kotabaru to gain the postive effect with the connection of Pulau Laut and the mainland of Kalimantan, but also Tanah Bumbu and South Kalimantan in general.

It will move the regional economy and help the prospect of a number of sector, such as industry, trade, tourism, an many other potentials can be worked on.

That is why, said the former chief of Bungkukan Village, the two district (Kotabaru-Tanah Bumbu) committed to synergize in their fight to the central for the bridge project to be continued.
