The South Kalimantan R&D Agency (Balitbangda) has conducted research and studies on processed products of Alabio duck.

Head of the agency Muhammad Yamin in Banjarbaru revealed various matters related to processed products have yet so far became the culinary brand of South Kalimantan, specifically.

"Although Alabio duck is a South Kalimantan special germplasm, but its processed products has not yet become trademark (branding), for example in Banjarmasin, Martapura, and Banjarbaru very rarely found Alabio duck restaurant," Amin pointed out.

While other processed products, such as duck jerky, crackers, and packaged duck meat, are rarely found in stores or supermarket, whereas Alabio duck has been very well-known till outside the province.

Base on the temporary analysis, Alabio duck processed products have only increased in certain period, while Alabio egg has been more prominent as the contributor to the largest South Kalimantan egg production. 

The Balitbangda has assigned three researchers for eight month to learn the problems related to Alabio duck, from up to down stream. The agency wanted to know the supply chain and its problem, and what straegis steps to do to increase its economic value and the development of Alabio duck processed products.

Siska, who represented the researchers, said North Hulu Sungai (HSU) District tends to be directed as Alabio duck egg producers. "The market demand for Alabio egg also tends to stable compared to its meat," she revealed on the final seminar on the study of branding and processed products of Alabio ducks at the Balibangda Hall in Banjarbaru, Thursday (Oct 24).
