Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Efforts to develop organic duck egg production in North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Kalimantan, has failed due to drought and land fire in 2015.
Livestock Business Section Head of the HSU Fisheries and Livestock Agency Syarifuddin Hasby in Amuntai on Wednesday said that drought and fires caused natural animal feed ingredients for Alabio ducks reduced.
"As a result, farmers switched to finished feed to feed the ducks, even then it was expensive at the time. So many farmers who cultivate organic duck eggs efforts have failed," he said.
Hasby said the government regretted the failure of the business development of organic duck egg production in Putat Atas Village, Sungai Pandan, Alabio. The reason, groups of farmers have received certificates and had received large orders from Singapore.
"Because farmers have switched to artificial animal feed resulting no longer organic, so their certification status revoked when assessment evaluation that day," he said.
According to him, organic Alabio egg production from HSU had even ordered by Singapore entrepreneu at the exhibition in Jakarta.
However, he said, farmers were not able to fulfill that big orders from Singapore. Likewise, other orders from Surabaya and other cities in the country.
To re-develop organic duck egg production business, HSU Fisheries and Livestock will foster a new group in the Sub-district of Haur Gading.
"We'll try again to develop organic Alabio duck egg production. Hopefully droughts and fires situation as in 2015 not happen again," he said.
