Located far from the district capital and surrounded by low-income villagers does not mean the state Islamic elementary school Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 9 in North Hulu Sungai Utara unable to compete at the national level.

MIN 9 in Harus Village, Amuntai Tengah Sub-district, was indeed chosen to represent South Kalimantan at the national School Health Unit Competition (UKS) this year.

"About 40 percent of our students are recipients of the (social assistance) Family Hope Program, so most parents of students are classified as poor families," Head of MIN 9 Khairati said in Amuntai on Thursday.

The number of MIN 9 students is very little, only 87, because the population in the Harus village and surrounding areas is small. It is precisely the number of students who make it easier in education, so students often excel at various race events at the district or provincial level.

The head of MIN 9 was grateful for the rapid progress of her school, thanks to the synergy and collaboration of various elements of the local government, especially in making MIN 9 a healthy school to become a representative of the UKS competition at the national level.

Previously, Khairati had also brought other schools to become UKS representatives at the national level. After moving to MIN 9, again she bring the school she led to become UKS representatives to the national level.

Meanwhile, the national UKS competition evaluation team praised the UKS room at MIN 9 that could be a pilot for other schools.

"The composition, spatial layout, and completeness of the UKS room in MIN 9 are very good so that healthy schools in South Kalimantan can be especially piloted," said the head of the UKS Competition evaluation team from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs Abdurrahman Somad.

The assessment team also praised the wastewater treatment at MIN 9, waste management and there was also a training in purun woven crafts for students.
