Head of the Banjarmasin Environmental Agency Mukhyar said the agency is ready to contribute to sending as much as 10 tons of garbage per day to the regional waste disposal site (TPA) in the Gunung Kupang, Banjarbaru City.

According to him, the city government has prepared a fleet of at least 5 trucks to transport waste to the regional landfill. "At least these trucks can transport up to 10 tons per day to the regional landfill," he said, Thursday.

However, he said, for the follow-up of this collaboration the city government expects there will be special access to regional landfills not through the residential areas. "While currently to transporting garbage there, the road is quite small, it passes through residential areas, or the roads are neighborhood residents," he pointed out.

For this reason, Mukhyar said, his office did not send waste to the regional landfill. "If we have a special road to the regional landfill, we will send it again," he emphasized.

Mukhyar stated that the city government strongly supports the existence of the regional landfill program. It concept is part of the development of the cities of Banjarbakula involving five regions, namely Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, the districts of Banjar, Batola and Tanah Laut.

This program will also help to overcome the amount of waste production in the capital city which reaches 650 tons per day.

Meanwhile, the landfill owned by the Banjarmasin City Government on Jalan Governor Subardjo or the Basirih landfill is only 40 hectares where almost half of it has been filled with garbage.

"This regional landfill is one of the solutions to reduce the volume of waste in the Basirih landfill so it has a longer capacity," he said.
