Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - A number of policewomen from the Directorate of Traffic (Ditlantas) of the South Kalimantan Regional Police distributed helmets and rice packets to road users around the Ramadhan Cake Fair area in Banjarmasin ahead of breaking the fast on Tuesday.


The sharing activity was led by Head of Sub Directorate of Education and Conjecture (Dikyasa) Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Nina Rahmi who was also the Head of the Pre-emptive Operation Task Force of Intan Safety 2019.

"During Ramadhan, before we are breaking fast, we distribute helmets to drivers, both adults and children," Nina said here on Tuesday.

In each action, policewomen observe the condition of the helmet of an adult driver when they arrive at the Ramadhan Cake Fair. If it is considered not feasible to use or not the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), then immediately replaced with a new helmet.

Especially for children is also a concern. Because there are still many parents who do not equip children with helmet when riding.

"We are very sorry because there are still many parents who neglect to maintain the safety of their children on the road. We continue to remind that the use of helmets for children is required to minimize fatalities due to accidents," said Nina.

"Based on our data, 70% of accidents involve high-fatality motorbikes due to not using standard helmets," Nina said.
