The demonstrators' demands are natural for the certainty of a better future life,Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Coloring the commemoration of International Labor Day 1 May 2019, hundreds of workers belonging to the All Indonesia Workers Union (SPSI) in South Kalimantan are demanding an increase in wages to a minimum standard of decent living.
They demanded the protest when demonstrating in front of the South Kalimantan DPRD Jalan Lambung Mangkurat, Wednesday afternoon.
Only Chairperson of Commission IV of the Welfare Sector Yazidie Fauzi SKom met with the demonstrators. Because "May Day" coincided with a holiday, so the leaders and members of the South Kalimantan DPRD did not enter the "Banjar House" (council building).
According to demonstrators, even though the wage system uses the provincial minimum wage standard (UMP) which rises every year, but not yet at the level of decent living needs.
In addition, the workers demanded that the Indonesian government revoke the outsourcing regulation. According to them, the outsourcing system does not provide certainty about the future of their welfare, and can put them under pressure of the company.
The Chairperson of Commission IV, who is also in charge of labor, responded positively to the demands of the demonstrators who delivered them in peaceful actions, without anarchists.
"The demonstrators' demands are natural for the certainty of a better future life," said the former Chairman of the South Kalimantan KNPI who joined the National Awakening Party (PKB).
While the UMP of South Kalimantan, consisting of 13 districts and cities, in 2019 amounted to Rp2,651,781 up 8.03 percent from last year's UMP Rp.2,454,671.
