Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Mayor Ibnu Sina and Head of Education Office Totok Agus invited students to use tumblers instead of using water in plastic packaging (bottled water).

The Mayor, who was also accompanied by environmental activists from the Banjarmasin Green Community Forum (FKH), visited the state junior high school SMPN 5 in Belitung, North Banjarmasin, Friday morning.

They teach students how to look after the environment, plant trees, and live clean lives. Especially to reduce plastic waste, avoid plastic bag, and other materials from plastic.

Uncle Anum from the FKH who became a resource for reducing plastic materials said, why reduce plastic waste because it is very damaging to nature.

Plastic waste can only decompose in 200 years, so if it is thrown into a river it will hamper the life of river biota which in turn reduces fish food, and eventually fish become scarce.

If plastic waste sinks to the ground it will inhibit the pore of the soil, so that the oxygen in the soil decreases. Living things in the soil such as worms will die.

If the body in the land cannot live, the land will not be loose, in turn the land will die, not fertile, and will disturb life.
