Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Four aircrafts failed to land at Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin due to rainstorms and diverted at another airport on Tuesday night.
"The airport area was hit by a storm at 19.30 pm, so four planes that should have landed at Syamsudin Noor's runway divert landings to another airport," said Syamsudin Airport Communication and Legal Section Head Noor Aditya Putra Patria in Banjarbaru.
He said the four aircraft that had failed to land was Garuda Indonesia with flight number GA 534 from Jakarta which was diverted to landing at Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
Two other aircraft also diverted to Balikpapan were Lion Air JT 318 and Lion JT 526 and Wing Airplane diverted to Palangkaraya airport, Central Kalimantan.
"The transfer of landing is entirely the decision of the pilot and they are unlikely to dare to land a plane with bad weather conditions, so they asked for a landing at another airport," he said.
According to him, information obtained from BMKG Syamsudin Noor Airport station, wind speed when the storm rains hit the airport area reached 33 knots or about 50-60 kilometers per hour.
"The weather conditions were tinged with heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, so the pilot decided to divert landing to another airport that conditions are safe for landing," he said.
He said bad weather and strong winds that hit the airport area lasted about half an hour and ended at 8:00 pm, but all four planes had landed at other airports.
"Currently at 21:00 pm weather conditions in the airport area has returned to normal and other aircraft can land because the heavy rain accompanied by a gust of wind has stopped," he said.
