Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The district government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, commemorated World Cleanup Day (WCD) as a momentum to raise public awareness about better waste management and environmental preservation.
Head of Kotabaru Environment Office (DLH) Melinda Ratna Agustina said that WCD is not just a cleanup effort. It is an educational tool to raise public awareness about waste management and preserving the environment.
"World Cleanup Day is an annual global event. It's not just about cleaning the environment, but also about sorting waste to make it a habit for all elements of Kotabaru society, including government, private sector organizations, and the general public," she said, as reported on Monday.

Through World Cleanup Day commemoration, her office initiated a collaborative effort between civil servants and the community to clean up public facilities in downtown Kotabaru.
The district government also carried out Flood-Free Rapid Action by cleaning up trash in drainage channels and rivers, curbing waste accumulation, and restoring the mangrove/urban forest ecosystem.
Campaigning tree planting and riverbank vegetation, educating community, monitoring water and waste quality, and distributing composting equipments to schools and communities/organizations.
WCD movement is in line with Kotabaru Hebat vision, with a mission to provide quality and environmentally friendly basic infrastructure.
Through WCD, Kotabaru is expected to be part of global movement of simultaneous cleanup action, while strengthening education and positive spirit of maintaining clean environment.
