Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan 28/2 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarbaru is a priority in peat restoration programs in South Kalimantan, because of the airport is located in the city.
"The Syamsudin Noor Airport in the city makes it a priority in peatland restoration program," said Head of Board of Peat Restoration Nazir Foead in Banjarbaru, Tuesday.
After opening peatland restoration dissemination in South Kalimantan involving stakeholders, local government representatives, academics and environmentalists, he said Banjarbaru became a focus of restoration among five districts in the province due to a large impact if flight activity interrupted.
Four other districts are being targeted in peat restoration program are North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Hulu Sungai (HSS), Tapin and Barito Kuala.
"The area of peatland in Banjarbaru is relatively small when compared to four other districts, but because there is an airport that fires in peat should be anticipated," he said.
Peat restoration program which has been run in anticipation of land and forest fires in Banjarbaru are the manufacture of canals and drilled wells around the area of peat.
He said the canal system is to prevent the spread of burned areas and also serves as a source of water can be used to water the hotspots in the region.
"In addition to the canalization system also made a rope of water into a liaison that peat soil areas are always provided with water from canals that are connected to the water rope," he said.
Another activity is the manufacture of drilled wells and 50 wells have been realized in the Guntung Damar, Guntung Payung Urban Village, which location adjacent to the airport.
