Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, held a dragon boat race on Martapura River to revive rowing sports and promote tourism.
"Martapura River is a tourism icon for the City of Banjarmasin, as well as its culture," said Mayor H Ibnu Sina after officiated the race in Banjarmasin, Thursday.
The Dragon Boat Mayor Cup 2024 was participated by 10 teams.
"They are rowing athletes who can make the City of Banjarmasin proud at national and international level," he said.
As a city known as "City of a Thousand Rivers", he said, Banjarmasin continues to develop the potential of its rivers as tourist destinations and sport facilities.
He pointed out that activities on the river are part of tradition and pride of the people of Banjarmasin.

"Banjarmasin with its water front city as a marker for the front of the city can be used for tour attraction, including sports," he said.
Ibnu Sina revealed that the dragon boat race was also part of collaboration between the city government and a production house, The Hype Entertainment, which is producing a film entitled "Kuyank". It took several shooting locations in Banjarmasin.
"So later this activity will also be included in the film," he said.
The film's actors and actresses were also present at the event, as part of efforts to build a creative economy ecosystem in Banjarmasin.
Ibnu Sina opined that the presence of movie industry will further strengthen Banjarmasin's position as a city that fully support creative economy players, including movie sector.
