Paringin, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - South Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) officially declared Balangan District on flood alert status based on the results of BMKG's Impact Based Forecast data analysis, PUPR Flood Task Force, and BNPB inaRISK since Desember 4, 2023.
“The flood alert status is due to the high intensity of rain when entering rainy season. The status declared by the province is tentative,” said Head of Balangan BPBD H Rahmi to reporters here, Wednesday.
This status, Rahmi asked, should be a common concern to always be alert. He urged all parties and the public to be careful and anticipate the situation.
Rahmi informed that Balangan is one of five districts in South Kalimantan on flood alert status. Apart from Balangan are Central Hulu Sungai (HST), North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Hulu Sungai (HSS) and Tabalong.

Based on this, the regional governments are asked to always monitor the latest condition in the field and spread information warning of high rainfall, water discharge, and potential risk of inundation areas.
They also must coordinate with related stakeholders in mobilizing disaster respon team and resources, preparing shelters, including infrastructure according to health protocol, preparing logistics and equipment, and assisting evacuation of vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, the community is asked to prepare standby team to monitor field condition, coordinate with village officals and prepare evacuation.
Rahmi added that residents are also asked to save important items to a safe place, and limit outside activities. When being outside, avoid billboards, large trees, and water channels.
“We also urge resident to prepare ready bag containing food, drinks, medicine, clothing, valuable documents and others,” said Rahmi.
