General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Syamsudin Noor Airport Handy Heryudhitiawan in Banjarbaru on Saturday said that the airport was forced to be closed for three hours.
"The airport is declared closed for three hours since 14:50 pm until 17:50 pm, because we need time to repair the damage of runway asphalt," he said.
He said eight flights were delayed due to the closure of the airport, namely one Lion Air flight to Jakarta, two flights to Surabaya, and one flight to Semarang. then a Garuda flight for Balikpapan.
While three other flights could not landed at Syamsudin Noor and forced to be diverted to another airport, namely Garuda flight from Jakarta, Lion Air from Jakarta and from Yogyakarta.
"We send a notification via Airnav that the airport is closed for all flights could not land or depart from the runway," he said.
According to him, the position of the damaged asphalt layer was 700 meters from runway 10 with a diameter of 20 cm x 10 cm and a depth of 2 centimeters, so it was disrupting flights.
"Its position was right in the middle, so it was very dangerous to aircraft taking off or landing and immediately repaired by way of patched," he said.
He said, the work was done quickly and finish before three hours so that the airport could be normal earlier to serve flights in Syamsudin Noor.
"The fillings was finished at 17:15 pm, so closure time was faster about 35 minutes from schedule and the aircraft have departed at that hour," he said.
The asphalt peel off was the second time in the last one month in the runway, so that the airport was forced to close.
Previous incident occurred on Monday (11/4) afternoon with peel off right in the middle point of 1,000 meters from runway 10, so that the airport was closed for three hours.
