Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government needs to create at least three million jobs per year to prepare for the demographic bonus, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy has said.
The minister made the remarks during the signing of an MoU on the ‘Creation of National Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA)’ and the agency’s launch in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“The government must create at least three million jobs per year. To that end, researches should not merely focus on pure sciences but also on applied sciences,” he said, according to a written statement here on Thursday.
Those who attended the function physically and virtually included chief of the BRIN Steering Council, Megawati Soekarnoputri, BRIN chief Admiral Tri Handoko, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, governors, mayors, and district heads.

Effendy said the government has continued to prepare for the peak of the demographic bonus in 2030 and the achievement of the Golden Indonesia vision by 2045 by grooming excellent and quality human resources and preparing jobs for the entire productive labor force.
Thus, research will play a role in generating jobs and solving regional issues, he added.
Effendy said BRIDA has been set up by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to prepare for Golden Indonesia in 2045. “BRIDA also aims to support regions’ efforts to prepare for 2045 through transformation,” he remarked.

It is unlikely that the central government will be able to handle all regional issues alone without the regions’ participation, he said adding, the regions must also play an active role in conducting research.
“The researches conducted by BRIN will unlikely reach all layers of the community until the bottom level without the initiative, hard will, and passion of each region,” he said.
To develop research in regions, regional stakeholders need to build passion so that the policy- and decision-making processes can be combined with research outcomes, he added.
“Insya Allah (God willing), if regions adopt a research-based policy, the precision level of their decisions will be better than that of intuition-based policy to solve regional issues,” he said.
BRIDA is a regional instrument that has been tasked with conducting research, development, assessment, invention, and innovation activities in an integrated way, as mandated by law.
Only three out of 34 provinces in the country have set up BRIDA so far. They are Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Central Java.
