"It is a fairly big allocation that some of the families might sell part of their share to get money to buy other needs,"Tanjung, South Kalimantan, June 19 (Antara) - Families categorized as very poor in the regency of Tabalong, South Kalimantan began to receive rice free from the state owned board of logistics (Bulog).
Head of the district Social and Manpower office Yuhani said the rice aid was distributed to coincide with the launching of `Gerbang Emas` by South Kalimantan vice governor Rudy Resnawan.
The first phase of the free rice program from Bulog totals 45 kilograms per household for January to March 2015, Yuhani said.
"It is a fairly big allocation that some of the families might sell part of their share to get money to buy other needs," he said.
He said the rice aid is a big relief for the poor people especially during the fasting month.
He said Bulog has provided 589,860 kilograms of rice for 3,277 households in the district.
The district administration of Tabalong has also set aside Rp4.7 billion this year from the regional budget for free rice for families categorized as very poor, he said.
