Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The City Government of Banjarmasin provides thousands of waste bins placed at the side of streets to create a hygiene in this city.

The bins are modified rubber scrap tires from Java, the Head of Banjarmasin Sanitation and Gardening Agency, Mukhyar, told reporters in Banjarmasin city hall on Monday.

Bin of rubber scrap tires has been choosen for not easily damaged and durable, and the price is not expensive, and expected no one is interested to steal it.

City Government hopes that all residents more accustomed to throw garbage into bins that have been provided so that officers  not difficult to do the cleaning and waste transportation.

Banjarmasin with about 700 thousand inhabitants producing 560 tons of waste per day. Of these about 20 percent are not transported, due to limited means of transportation and janitors.

The rest garbage are processed at the Integrated Waste Processing (TPST) in several locations in Banjarmasin. Garbage here are distilled into valuable items and some are processed into organic fertilizer.

There ares garbage managed by waste banks totaled 37 units in Banjarmasin. The garbage banks managed by villages in Banjarmasin have given welfare, so that the management of the waste bank will continue to be improved in almost all areas of the city.
