Riam Kanan Water Elevation Normal

Martapura, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The water level in Riam Kanan dam, Aranio subdistrict, Banjar District, still normal, so the condition of the dam is safe.

"We have been done a field survey to determine the height of the water dam. As a result, the water level is normal," said Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of Banjar, Noor Sunarto in Martapura on Thursday.

According to him, the field survey carried out in response to issues spread in the community mention that Riam Kanan Dam threatened to be broken due to high water levels.

The results of field measurements, backed by survey team of experts on January 16, 2014 showed the dam water level reached 55.83 meters. Meanwhile, when the reservoir water level monitoring it reached 55.96 meters . Under normal conditions, the water level was 58-59 meters. Thus, the reservoir water level is still below normal.

"People do not have to worry and fret of the information that the reservoir water level is above normal. Rainfall almost throughout the Banjar district is high since the end of the year, including over the dam, but the water level is still below normal," he said.

He asked people not to easily believe and provoked by issues that are not yet certain, let alone it had a field survey and ensure the normal water level.

Riam Kanan dam hydropower also known as Ir Prince Muhammad Noor dam that has reached millions of cubic volume of water, so if broken feared cause flooding.

Even people believe, if the dam burst then many areas in South Kalimantan flooded since such a large volume of water contained in the dam.
