Martapura, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - South Kalimantan Governor closed the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) IX 2013 in the District Banjar, Sunday (23/12), which put Banjarmasin as the overall winner.
Banjarmasin collected the most medals from around the contingent of participants by 95 gold, 82 silver and 86
bronze. While Banjarbaru the runner up with 59 gold, 41 silver, and 76 bronze and Tapin captured third place with 40 gold, 30 silver, 32 bronze.
The next were Tanah Bumbu (34-56-67), Kotabaru (34-45-63), Banjar (28-29-60), Tanahlaut (25-28-36), Barito Kuala (25-28-25), North Hulu Sungai (20-16-38), Tabalong (15-18-30), South Hulu Sungai (8-10-16), Balangan (4-7-11), and Central Hulu Sungai (3-4-24).
"Hopefully what was achieved in this Porprov could be upgraded to achieve a big 10 in upcoming PON XIX," said Governor H Rudy Ariffin in the closing speech at Demang Lehman stadium, Martapura.
He also said that South Kalimantan provincial government will support an increase of Demang Lehman stadium's capacity as planned by Banjar District Government.
Regent Banjar Khairul Saleh said the capacity building and stadium facilities to be developed for 20 thousand spectators in 2014 and look forward sharing funds from provincial government.
The closuring of Porprov IX began with football final match between Banjarmasin and Tapin ended 2-1 for Tapin fourth title in the last four Porprov events.
"A lot of young athletes showed achievements in Porprov and will undertake intensive training to be able to achieve national and even international," said H Sulaiman HB, Chairman of South Kalimantan KONI (National Sport Committee).
Porprov IX also saw some match numbers disqualification due to various reasons such as the use of foreign players. Some of these sports include badminton, athletics and rowing.
