Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The number of sub-district in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, is likely to increase after residents from seven villages in Pamukan Selatan Sub-district and Pamukan Utara Sub-district urge to separate to make their own sub-district, Pamukan Timur, for the reason to facilitate public service.
Chairman of the Kotabaru DPRD's PPP Fraction, Denny Hendro Kurnianto, said the discourse of the partition is getting stronger in line with public pressure.
"To accomodate this aspiration, we (legislative) have held a coordination meeting with the executive and we have included it in the local legislation program (Prolegda) for the 2020 fiscal year," he pointed out, Monday (Dec 16, 2019).
The discourse, he acknowledged, had actually been rolled out along with the planned partition of three other sub-districts, namely Pulau Laut Kepulauan, Pulau Laut Tengah, and Kelumpang. The partition of the three have been realized.
Even then, a new other sub-district emerged, Pulau Laut Sigam, which was resulted from separation of some villages from Pulau Laut Utara Sub-district.
Seeing from several aspects of requirements for the establishment of the sub-district administration, Pamukan Timur, which is part of Pamukan Utara and Pamukan Selatan, has been fulfilled. Although there were obstacles, one of which related to the border with Paser Regency, East Kalimantan.
"But the border issue has been cleared. Other requirements, such as population and extent of the area as basic requirement, in our opinion have been very fulfilled," he pointed out again.

Indeed, he told, there is a few administrative requirements need to be improved, namely the number of villages that require a minimum of 10, while currently there are only seven villages (3 from Pamukan Utara and 4 from Pamukan Selatan).
However, the situation and conditions in the field, showed it is very feasible even included in the priority scale. Because the community is very burdened when doing administrative things in the existing sub-district.
Just to go to sub-district office or the police station, residents haave to travel so far and expensive, because they have to use sea transportation that can only be chartered as there is no regular route.
"Therefore, in our opinion, Pamukan Timur Sub-district should be realized and even become priority program in order to provide optimum service to the people," Denny explained.
