SMKN 1 Paringin creates automatic height gauge to win approriate technology contest

...the making of the electric height measuring device began from their observation that all this time people always use meter or ruler to measure height, which sometimes inaccurate, and need other people's help.

Paringin. S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The students of high vocational school of SMK Negeri 1 Paringin, Balangan District, made another achiement. They created an automatic height measuring device to champion an appropriate technology contest.

The electrical team of SMK Negeri 1 Paringin, namely Andri Putra, Agung Heru S dan M Alfin Faiz, have created the gauge to win the contest held by the Banjarbaru Industry Standardization and Research Center, vertical agency located in Banjarbaru, under the Industrial Research and Development Agency (BPPI) Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia.

Andi and friends were students of Adaro Community Based Education program under the Foundation of Adaro Bangun Negeri (YABN). They set aside nine other contestant teams.

Their supervising teacher of SMKN 1 Paringin Izzudin Syarif said the making of the electric height measuring device began from their observation that all this time people always use meter or ruler to measure height, which sometimes inaccurate, and need other people's help.

They then created the automatic height gauge by applying ultrasonic sensor. "Through ultrasonic sensor anyone can measure his or her own height with no need of other people help," Izuddin explained.

Base of the research they have done the accuracy of this devicec has reached 99,2 percent.

Meanwhile, the jury hoped this automatic gauge to be developed and patented, so it can be produced for public.

Previously 10 finalist competed to win the contest with a theme of "With Technology Innovation Youth Support the Develoment of Industry 4.0", the millennial generation are expected to be innovative and creative inventors for the realization of 4.0".

Three of the 10 finalists teams were students of Adaro Community Based Education program under the Foundation of Adaro Bangun Negeri (YABN). One of which was a team from SMAN 1 Upau who found dulang (Centella Asiatica) leaf powder as a natural flavor enhancer to substitute MSG.

While other two teams were from SMKN 1 Paringin: one presented arduino-based automatic bell control, the other came with automatic height gauge.

The electrical team of SMKN 1 Paringin has previously won second place in the national scientific writing competition with the title of the project to develop an arduino-based 3rd generation voltage drop protection device.
