The Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) suggested the local government to prioritize the construction of hospitals and health services.

"In determining the scale of priorities, we ask that health and hospitals be a concern as part of the basic needs of the community," said H Asmail from the PKS faction when delivering the recommendations of the DPRD on Friday.

He said this was related to complaints about low health services. The legislature hoped the local government would pay serious attention to this problem.

Other problems, Asmail continued, related to the termination of the use of SKTM (certificate of incapability) in health services.

The people's representatives requested that immediate assistance be given to the poor residents to immediately obtain a Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) assurance, both funded by APBD (local budget) or APBN (state budget).

Chairman of Commission III Denny Hendro Kurnianto said this was related to Presidential Regulation No.82 of 2018 concerning Health Insurance, which requires the community to become BPJS participants.

"At the same time, we also received a lot of complaints from the public that SKTM is no longer valid, so it must participate in the participation of BPJS Kesehatan," Denny said.

The total membership of BPJS Kesehatan in Kotabaru is only 177,000 people out of the 320,000 population, so there are still many who are not covered by BPJS Kesehatan insurance.

"Therefore, addressing this problem, we (the council) coordinate with the local government to seek alternatives so it does not become a heavy burden for the region," he said.
