Residents of Barito Kuala (Batola) District complained about the pest of wild ape  (locally known as warik) whose attacks were getting more and more.

"Batola residents cannot garden and grow rice, because of a warik attack," said South Kalimantan DPRD member from the district election area, Dr H Karlie Hanafi Kalianda SH MH in Banjarmasin on Monday.

"Those who complained were residents of Sungai Pantai Village, Rantau Badauh Subdistrict (about 30 kilometers west of Banjarmasin), and they told me when I recessed a few days ago," he said to Antaranews South Kalimantan.

"Moreover, the warik can attack people, not as bad as the warik in the tourist attraction of Kembang Island in the middle of the Barito River," said Karlie who is also the Chair of the South Kalimantan DPRD Golkar Party Faction.

Responding to complaints from the residents of Sungai Pantai Village, the member of the Commission II for the Economy and Finance who is also in charge of agriculture, would send a letter to the provincial Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

"We will send a letter to the South Kalimantan BKSDA in Banjarbaru regarding the problem of the pest, how is the solution," continued the former student activist of the Lambung Mangkurat University Banjarmasin.

"For the time being there are no other livelihoods for the Batola people, gardening and rice cultivation. Therefore, it is necessary to solve the problem of the pest," said Karlie Hanafi.
