Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Governor Sahbirin Noor or usually called Uncle Birin gifted four teachers with umrah. The award for the education fighters was spontaneously given in the Gathering of the South Kalimantan Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI).

"The teacher is a warrior for successful people. Without them, we are nobody. And this Umrah prize is a form of my appreciation to the teachers," said Uncle Birin, after opening the gathering and a national seminar in Idham Chalid Building, Banjarbaru, Wednesday (20/2).

Uncle Birin's gift was given to four teachers who dared to come forward to answer his questions. They were Misbah, kindergarten teacher from Martapura, Ernawati from Tapin, Mas Alkalani from HSU, and Tumiran from SMAN 4 Banjarmasin.

Tumiran, who has been a teacher for 30 years, said he was very happy for the gift that Uncle Birin gave.

"Thank God, indeed Allah gave an unexpected fortune. I have umrah in 2012. But this time, Uncle Birin gave Umrah straight away. Thank you," Tumiran said after being told that he and his three colleagues had received the Umrah prize.

Head of South Kalimantan PGRI HM Hatta said that the Dwija Praja Nugraha award received by Governor Sahbirin Noor last December was clear evidence of his concern and seriousness in the education sector in the province.

To support the governor's concern, the South Kalimantan Education Service encouraged teachers to continue their education to a higher level.

Teachers are the most important element in education, so academic qualifications must be fulfilled, while legislation requires teachers to have a degree at least a bachelor (diploma 4 or S1).
