Pelaihari, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Durian Si Sanggan from Galam Village, Bajuin Subdistrict, which won the first title of the 2019 Tanah Laut Durian Contest on Friday (11/1), came from a 50-year-old durian tree.


Mairudin, the owner of the durian champion, said that the durian he displayed in the contest came from a 50-year-old durian tree. During that time, he said, maintenance is routinely carried out.

"I am very happy to win and this Durian Contest is for the first time," he said.

Seven sub-districts in Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, took part in the contest. They display as many as 90 types of durian.

Meanwhile, the second winner was Si Kandal from Tungkaran Village, Pelaihari Subdistrict, and the third winner was won by Tinjau, also from Tungkaran Village.

While the fourth (first hopeful) winner was Si Kuncup from Ranggang Dalam Village, Takisung Subdistrict, and the second hopeful winner was Si Gagam from Banua Tengah Village, also from Takisung, and the third hopeful winner was Garuda from Panjaratan Village, Pelaihari Subdistrict.

"The winner of this contest will be the parent tree and will be developed using technological engineering so that it can be preserved as a local fruit," said Regent
