Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - A joint team from the Kotabaru Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), South Kalimantan, is on standby for 1x24 hours which focused on coastal areas.


"The team's preparedness is merely to anticipate the occurrence of a tsunami that is unexpected, such as in the Sunda Strait, Banten," Acting Head of Kotabaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) H Rosian Ahmadi Jaya said here, Monday

He explained the BPBD team consists of the Search and Rescue Agency, Navy, Police, and others have currently built a post command at Sarang Tiung Beach, Gedambaan, North Pulau Laut, and Siring Laut.

In addition to building a post and guarding 1x24 hours at the post, other team members also patrol prone coastal areas where seawater is overflowing.

"Moreover, currently entering the western season, where the coastal areas in the west of the island will experience high tides and sea waves, so the coastal areas in the west receive special attention," he said.

They are Lontar Beach, Semaras Beach, Sekerambut Beach, Marabatuan Beach, Rampa Lama, Rampa Baru, part of Sarang Tiung, and others.

Rosian admitted that there had never been a tsunami in Kotabaru, but several times there had been overflowing of seawater or rob, as happened along the coast of Central Pulau Laut Subdistrict.

"At that time, the people in the coastal areas had fled to higher areas," he explained.

He acknowledged that coordination is always carried out, and received direct direction from Kotabaru Regent H Sayed Jafar regarding preparedness related to the tsunami.

Meanwhile, based on data released by the National SAR agency (Basarnas), 334 people died as a result of the tsunami that hit the Sunda Strait, Banten Province, on Saturday (12/22) night.
