Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Head of the South Kalimantan Food Crops and Horticulture Agency Fathurrahman confirmed rice plants in an area of 100 hectares prepared for the 38th World Food Day on October 18, 2018, ready to be harvested.

According to Fathurrahman, the paddy has now begun to turn yellow and will be gradually harvested by farmers.

"Especially at the peak of the commemoration of the World Food Day (HPS) 15 hectares will be harvested, and the rest will gradually be harvested after the commemoration," he said in Banjarmasin on Friday.

Fathurrahman ensured that the newly opened rice fields at the location of the HPS in the Jejangkit Village, Barito Kuala District, could succeed well, because of an applied agriculture technology.

He acknowledged many people predicted that agriculture in the area will fail, will not be able to harvest and others, due to the high acidity of the water.

However, he added, thanks to the appropriate technology that had been successfully built, now the impara type rice planted is ready to be harvested with satisfactory results.

"Of the 15 hectares of ready-to-harvest land, if you can get 5 tons it is good enough because it's the first crop," he said.

Previously, all relevant parties, shoulder to shoulder planted rice on the location of the HPS covering an area of 750 hectares.

Various layers of society and parties, from the government, schools, private sector, banks, PWI, DPRD, district and city governments, alternately planted at the locations.

Now the location which previously was a stretch of sleeping land has turned into a good and amazing agricultural location with adequate irrigation channels.
