Tanjung, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The government of Tabalong, South Kalimantan, continues to provide rabies vaccines to pets, such as dogs, monkeys, and cats, although this year there have not been any positive victims of the rabies virus.


Head of the Animal Husbandry Department of the Tabalong Agriculture Agency Saswoko in Tanjung Wednesday said currently 1,000 dogs had received the rabies vaccine. "We are targeting 2,000 animals to get vaccination to prevent rabies," he explained.

The rabies vaccination program itself is limited to residents' pets, not including wild dogs and apes that are scattered in a number of subdistricts.

Saswoko said that this year there are twice vaccinations. The first phase is January-February and the second to be given in November 2018.

Vaccination targets are Jaro, Muara Uya, Haruai, Upau, Tanjung, Murung Pudak and Tanta Subdistricts.

In Tabalong, the rabies vaccination program has been implemented since 1986 and according to the national target of 2024 will be free of this disease.

Head of the Animal Health Section Suwandi said that of the nine bite cases in Tabalong there had been no victims of positive rabies.
