Marabahan, (Antara) - Barito Kuala held the first pineapple festival in, South Kalimantan. The fruits come from Mekarsari subdistrict which is well known for its pineapple.
The fruits are arranged in stages so that it rises high, just like a tower at the festival.
This is a promotional event because Mekarsari Subdistrict is a center for pineapple farming, said Head of Mekarsari Sub-District Mochammad Aziz.
"Pineapple festival can be used as a pineapple picking tour in South Kalimantan," Mochammad Aziz said in Marabahan, Monday.
According to him, the festival can improve the creativity of pineapple-based processed products and foster the passion of pineapple farmers to produce higher quality crops.
Regent Hj Noormiliyani AS hopes this festival will become a storefront of various superior agricultural products of Barito Kuala, especially pineapple which has been developed as well as being an arena for education and sharing of various plantation problems.
Barito Kuala Government, she said, is committed to encouraging local fruit production to increase and succeed in the national market through providing land and making improvements to the production chain until post-harvest.
To business people and fruit trade, she invited to improve by not just selling to traditional markets, but directed to reach global markets.
